"God bestowed goodness upon the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very strong." - Exodus1:20
Midwifery is an intertwined practice of art and science. The art of midwifery is in the knowledge and devotion to keeping birth normal. The science is knowing when and how to intervene if it becomes necessary.
Midwives are health care providers who specialize in pregnancy and childbirth with an emphasis on building partnerships with women and their families, and providing emotional support during labor, birth, and motherhood. A Midwife knows pregnancy and childbirth is a normal process and does not see pregnancy as an illness that must be treated. A midwife’s role is to act as a guide and encourage the birthing mother to "let go" and allow herself to be part of the intricate process of labor, birth and motherhood. Trust in the natural process of labor and in a woman’s body to birth normally and safely is the hallmark of midwifery care.
Choosing a midwife-attended birth has many advantages to the expectant mother. A midwife offers personalized attention throughout the pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum period. Prenatal appointments are long enough to provide education and encourage discussion. Midwives expect parents to be informed in their care and give special attention to each woman’s personal birth preferences. Pregnancy and birth are individual, so your care should be as well.
“Just as a woman’s heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale, and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth.”
-Virginia Di Orio
“The midwife considers the miracle of childbirth as normal, and leaves it alone unless there's trouble.” - Sheila Stubbs
We believe pregnancy and childbirth are a natural and important part of a woman’s life. A woman’s body is perfectly designed for childbirth and has an innate wisdom and power to birth a baby. Our mission is to create an "all-inclusive" experience in which baby is birthed in a warm and safe environment that is free from unnecessary interventions. Whenever the normal birthing process is interfered with, there are increased risks for both mother and baby.
We strive to make your journey into motherhood as relaxed as possible. Your pregnancy journey should be supported with love, kindness and a sense of empowerment. The strength you receive today will guide you into motherhood.
We believe that the majority of low-risk pregnant women are able to birth naturally with minimal to no intervention. For women that become high-risk, we will coordinate physician consultations and referral services.
“Birth is not only about making babies, birth is about making mothers. Strong, competent capable mothers, who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
- Barbara Katz Rothman
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future.”
- Proverbs 31:25
